If you are a fan of any of the teams that I root for then I apologize. I think I put a curse on all of my favorite teams. Baseball – Yankees. Football – Giants. Hockey – Rangers. Basketball – Knicks. For everybody who doesn’t know me on a personal level my name is Mike and I live and die by my teams. I spent 27 years of my life being born and raised in New York. Last December I made the decision to move to Massachusetts due to cost of living and to be closer with my girlfriend. All around a good move for me. But ever since I moved here my sports teams have gone down the shitter.
Lets start off with the Yankees. Dating back to last October we saw a team that shocked many people and fall short of a World Series appearance by one game. They added Giancarlo Stanton in the offseason and we were projected to be in the World Series by many “experts”. Fast forwards to now, we got eliminated by the Boston Red Sox and now the Sox are two games away from winning yet another World Series. Granted we were an 100-win team this season but we got absolutely smacked by Boston in the ALDS in 4 games. It was a pathetic showing. So instead of taking the step forward everybody thought we would take, we took a step backwards. My bad, folks.
Next up, the disgrace that is the New York Giants. We can date this back to last season as well. The Giants who always remained competitive the last 10 years had one of their worst seasons last year. They finished with an abysmal 3-13 record. They locked up the number two pick in the draft and also fired Ben MacAdoo in the process. The Giants opted to take Saquon Barkley in the draft and passed on taking a quarterback. Which in hindsight seems like a bad decision. Pat Shurmur was brought in to bring a new look to the offense and so far 7 weeks into the season the Giants are staring at a 1-6 record and have started a fire sale by trading away Eli Apple and “Snacks” Harrison in the last week. There should be more on the horizon but time will tell. They are on their way to locking up another top 5 pick this year and it seems like Eli’s time here is coming to a sad and horrific close. I went to Massachusetts and Eli’s ability to throw the ball downfield went to shit. My apologies.
The New York Rangers. For the first time in a long time the Rangers have fully committed to a rebuild. They traded away a lot of pieces at the deadline last season and compiled three first round picks in the draft and used them all. They finally fired that twat Alain Vigneault and brought in David Quinn which was a breath of fresh air. They are embracing the rebuild which I am happy about but it just feels weird knowing the Rangers have a very very slim chance of making the playoffs this year. But with you guys like Filip Chytil, Lias Andersson, Neal Pionk and Vitali Kravtsov on the horizon, the future is very promising. See you soon Shestyorkin! I move away and the Rangers accept that their window for winning anytime soon is closed. Sorry not sorry because it had to be done.
The New York Knicks. I mean they’re always going to be screwed some way or another so I’m not taking blame for this franchise. I’m excited with the group of kids that are on the team currently and I’m anxiously awaiting the return of Kristaps Porzingis. Dave Fizdale was an excellent hire to coach this team, now we just need to snag a big name free agent next summer and the Knicks might actually get some recognition again.
All my teams are losers right now, Red Sox are about to be champs, Patriots = good. Celtics = best team in the East. Bruins = very good. I feel like I caused this in a way. So Boston you’re welcome and New York I am deeply sorry. I love you and I miss you.
